TOM FORD

Finally, after the top secret show at NY fashion week in September, Vogue (and Harper's Bazaar UK) have some exclusive pics of Tom's (sorry, Mr Ford's - he apparently hates folks calling him Tom nowadays MYBAD) latest womenswear collection.

Feast your eyes...

Pics from vogue.com

Why was everyone going so insane about this collection? Well, apart from Ford's 6 year hiatus in womenswear design, the show was ULTRA SUPER-EXCLUSIVE - even for fashion week! Only a few key insiders and photographer Terry Richardson were allowed and pics from the show have been kept in a locked safe guarded by giant tigers and rabid blood-thirsty fashion harpys since... Probably.

Oh yeah, and of course, THE MODELS! Um... Beyoncé Knowles, Lauren Hutton, Liya Kebede, Rinko Kikuchi, Stella Tennant, Amber Valletta, Natalia Vodianova, Karen Elson, Karlie Kloss, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Julianne Moore...

...Sorry, did I mention freakin' BEYONCE?

But enough about all that, now to the clothes. I adore this! It's got everything I look for - fringing, texture, shape, tailoring... And that last shot of Karen Elson in that dress with THAT necklace - CRIPES I'm all agog.

There's animal print and turbans and vibrant colour and big hair, but not a hint of tacky. (yeah, Lanvin I'm looking at you...) Classy and aspirational. I want to be a Tom Ford gal.

According to vogue.com Tom Ford had this to say:

I do not understand everyone’s need to see everything online the day after a show. I don’t think it ultimately serves the customer, which is the whole point of my business—not to serve journalists or the fashion system. To put something out that’s going to be in a store in six months, and to see it on a starlet, ranked in US magazine next week? My customer doesn’t want to wear the same thing she saw on a starlet!

(Ummm, I can get his point, but the last sentence seems a little bizarre since why else would he chose the likes of Beyonce and Julianne Moore to model for him? Can't QUITE get my head round that. He continues:)

There's a continuity from what I was doing at YSL at the end; that's the customer. It's about individuality. Real clothes, real women. For a fashionable woman aged 25 to 75. That's why I literally put many of my own muses in the show. I hear them say, 'God, I can't find that anywhere!' "

More pics to be released in the months ahead, I'll be obsessively googling Beyonce Tom Ford Show till then.

EDIT: Here's some more pics from Harpers Bazaar UK:

Emily Blunt, you are tooooooooo gorgeous for words. And you are absolutely working that fringed dress

Gorgeous - I like what he's saying in theory but it must be v difficult to control surely? Especially with all the f-row tweeters and bloggers. And the blue fringed dress is pure perfection - L O V E! Sally x

Sally, yeah he seems to kind of be contradicting himself by firstly making the show so secretive and exclusive(tweeters and bloggers were banned!) therefore cranking up the media hype and secondly using famous "starlets" as models - now EVERYONE wants the pics! He's obviously hugely media savvy and knows exactly how to play it and at the end of the day he deserves props for that! And it would be annoying if the collection turned out to be mediocre but praise Chole (Sevigny aka my God) it's actually fabulous!
Kirstyb - I know right!? So glad I'm not the only one getting massively excited by this!
