TAVI'S UNITED STATES OF WHATEVER

This weather is pissing me off. Like, what a really mundane thing to say, right? Duh... I can't imagine ANYONE out there is loving the constant blanket of ominous grey cloud hanging over us, broken only by persistent bouts of boke-worthy torrential rain - the kind that makes you PROPER soaked in seconds. NICE.

There's only been one or two nice days in months and frankly I'm SICK of it, which is KIND OF weird since I've always considered myself much more of a winter person - scarves, coats, gloves, jumpers, roaring fires, frosty windows, porridge, Christmas... YUP - but part of the fun of winter is the contrast between it and other actual seasons. Where's the fun in sliding miserably into a sodden Autumn without the dramatic changing of the seasons that makes my heart so happy? Nowhere, that's where. SOB. Get me out of this climate before I develop that SAD disease for real.

ANYWAY, this gorgeous editorial of Tavi (my ultimate love) for Oyster magazine has helped to relieve some of my weather woes this morning. Don't ask me why, it's not like she's prancing around in a bikini at the beach (as IF) but something about it screams summer at me. But in a kind of subtle way. Yeah, that makes sense...

I love the pastel tones, the leafy suburban setting hinting at something a bit menacing (no?) and the way the light and shadow hit her face. Utter babe.

I also LOVE the way she's looking down in almost every shot. Sometimes, as much as I adore Tavi, she can come across a bit precocious and all-knowing, too old for her years (she's only 16). But in these shots she looks sort of coy and self-conscious. I know at 16 I had some serious eye-contact issues and I feel like I can see that awkward teenage, angsty embarrassment in her here. Which is cool. Also enjoying how she's clearly styled herself and it's GENIUS as ever, and that she's kind of gone a bit heavy on the makeup as most 16-year-olds are liable to do.

But yeah, SUMMER. It reminds me of SUMMER. And believe me, it's nice to be reminded and I bundle myself up in jeans and jumpers and frantically search for my umbrella. IN AUGUST. Boke.

TAVI FOR VOGUE NIPPON

If you follow me on Instagram (kirsty44susnets) you'll already have seen some of these shots of Tavi for Vogue Nippon channelling a 60s vibe in her typically awesome, off-beat way...

Favourite person blogger in the world. Ever.

Can you believe she's 16 now? I remember reading Style Rookie (before it was even called that) back when she was just 13 and dressed like a mentalist/the coolest old lady you'd ever seen. It might sound creepy but I'm really enjoying watching her grow up and seeing her style and tone of the blog evolve. These shots are GORGEOUS - she's gonna be a total heartbreaker, no?

That did sound kinda creepy.

And yes, I DO read Rookie Mag even though it's aimed at girls ALMOST TEN YEARS YOUNGER THAN ME, because deep down I have the mental/emotional age of an adolescent. Fact. And seriously, some of those articles are downright HELPFUL.

MAGIC MAN

This is a very weird, jumble of a post - apologies. Welcome to my brain.

So recently I've been getting RIGHT BACK INTO older Style Rookie posts (not even ashamed. So what if Tavi is like 15, she's the coolest person I've never met) especially the room inspiration/teen shrine
posts from last year, a la this:

I love the jumble of garish colours and sentimental nick-naks like SO much. But, I mean, you'd never know by looking at MY room, right?

Yes, Tavi is my God. And what?

The 70s vibes of the Virgin Suicides propaganda along with the Catholic pin and crucifixes and stuff got me thinking sartorially so I checked in to see if American Gold on the Spanish Moss site had any new deliveries. They didn't, but their existing gear is still right up my street. Kinda TeenWitchy, sorta 70s, a little bit Fleetwood Mac, a tad dark and occult... Perfect.

Pretty awesome, I'd be happy with any of these pieces for spring. Specially that last dress.

Unfortunately American Gold can be a bit expensive (try stupidly over-priced) so I'll be scouring more Etsy and eBay shops for my spring/summer fix. Actually, Spanish Moss themselves do a great line of vintage finds too (anyone remember when they started out as an aBay shop just like Nasty Gal? I fear I'm showing my age here!), but again only for the super rich. Nonetheless, here are few of my faves:

Perhaps not the most practical for strutting along Kilmarnock Road and maybe not everyone's cup of tea but pretty to look at :)

I'll leave you with the song I've had running round my head all day... Turn it up LOUD now.

ADVANCED STYLE

So, a while back I became mildly OBSESSED with Advanced Style after I wrote that post on Iris Apfel for MAC and discovered she was much-loved by the eccentric blog which celebrates stylish older folk.

Imagine my excitement when I noticed on Style Rookie this morning that Advanced Style are making a documentary AND book, and my beloved Iris features in both :)

Have a gander at the trailer and feel instantly better about your life. Seriously.

Best quotes -

"I just like to feel better dressed than other people." (NEW MANTRA)

"This is what I am, this is what you get."

"I'm not ready for a convent or anything, so I can wear leopard glasses."

"Young women, you're going to be an old woman someday. Don't worry about it. Don't sweat it. Every era builds character."

Absolutely love it. Can I hang about with them?

ETSY SPOTLIGHT: D4NE2D33P

AKA Yard666sale, this shop is possibly my most favourite on Etsy at the moment. I've already bought two things from them (vintage Rancid tshirt and religious iconography long-sleeved top, OBV) and am itching to get my paws on more tacky, trippy, witchy 90s gear.

Just check these awesome photos. I wanna be a D4NE2D33P grrrl SO bad.

So aye, this shop is amazing and these pictures are the coolest things I've seen in a loooong time.

GAHD, as Bee and Lisa have both pointed out, there's at least several hundred things on in Glasgow tonight which I can't go to as I'm back working heinous full-time shifts at my old joabby. BOO. So instead, when I get in ama make like Tavi, dress up like a goth and lip synch to Taylor Swift... PLAN.

Oh, Tavi. YOU belong with MEEEEE! Amazeballs.

Sorry if this post was pathetically lacking in any real insight much beyond the likes of GEE GUYS THIS SHIZ IS WAY COOL. Working full time is zapping all my energy at the mo. That and some inappropriate mid-week drinking *ahem*
