Pre-fall and pre-spring (resort) collections can often be a real mixed bag. Sometimes they're totally random - a complete departure from a designer's main aesthetic, while other times they can hint strongly to the themes of upcoming/past collections. The Givenchy Resort 2013 collection, shown in New York on Monday, was a personal favourite of mine and seemed to both nod to Fall 2012 and allude to something totally different for Spring...
Lolzers! Mrs Wummin, yer famous!
This is as "gypsy" as I reckon Ricardo Tisci will ever get because although there were bohemian touches, the overall tone was geometric. Gone were the gothic elements from last fall, gone too were the peplums of last spring in favour of something more "romantic, but with a sharpness" - his own words.
But still, flashes of red were a continuing theme, and where would Tisci be without a bold print? This time it was an almost Gucci-esque scarf print with touches of a busy Paisley. DIVINE. I REALLY hope we'll see more of this dropped-crotch, slouchy tailoring and cape-sleeves for Spring proper... very Lana Del Rey at the MET, no?
What do you guys make of the Resort collections - any favourites?
