OH MY GOD, HE JUST ORDERED A GIANT GLASS OF MILK

Some may argue that July is TOO FREAKIN EARLY to be thinking about Halloween ideas... To them I'd say "blow me, doofus" "Look at me, I'm not even listening to a word you're saying." There is NO SUCH THING as being too prepared for Halloween.

I always get so excited for Halloween but inevitably mess it all up at the last minute. Remember that time I had my Ziggy Stardust costume down to a tee and then stupidly went and broke my toe and couldn't go out? I pulled it back somewhat last year with a solid 6/10 Robin with my shorter, petite-er pal as my Batman... (No, seriously, just picture that for a second. Marie even threw together some home-made KAPOW signs and everything. We made a pretty hilarious pair, which kinda added to the random awesomeness of it all...)

BUT THIS YEAR I'm getting right back on it. I'd been toying with the idea of going for as ENID COLESLAW from Ghost World, but I'd struggled to find the iconic blue Raptor tshirt she wears in the first part of the film and on the dvd cover...

UNTIL NOW! Yeah, I managed to track down an Etsy seller who custom make Enid's EXACT Raptor tee! This has 100% sealed the deal for me...

Ahmahhzing.

Come October ama be channelling my inner sardonic, cynical, bitter-but-totally-awesome teenager. Just need to get myself some cheapo 50s style specs, black bob wig, red bag and green tartan skirt. SORTED!

Enid Coleslaw, you're my hero. Some other awesome Enid looks from the film:

You guys up for some reggae tonight?

BITCHING & JUNKFOOD: NEW ARRIVALS

Because I only have five minutes until hometime, let's forget the flowery intro and skip to some of my favourite looks from Bitching & Junkfood's latest high summer arrivals...

Pretty fierce.

Now where did I put my black lipstick again?

OOPS!

Following on from yesterday's post, and since it's payday and all, I just bought myself this badBOY as wee PUNKY crimbo treat.

I've been enjoying wearing a bit of colour recently, but as soon as I clicked the BUY button for this awesome, over-sized Boy London Tshirt, I got that familiar comforted feeling - like the cockles of my grungy, goffy soul were basking in a right royal warming. Ahhhhh!

I imagine it'd look pretty cool with my Acne leather jacket, grey leggings and creepers or white docs. I don't actually HAVE white docs, but that's a purchase for another month...

Safe to say I am now officially SKINTED.

BACKPACK DILEMA

I confess, I have mixed feeling about backpacks.

Having worn an assortment of heinous variations throughout primary school and the first five years of secondary (sixth year I was only in for 2 hours a day and pretty much just carried a pen and notepad in the infinite depths of my blazer when I absolutely HAD to), I've never had one on my back since then.

What I remember most about them was, as a petite teenager (read SHORT-ARSE), the backpacks I carried were always stupidly massive and had to be slung as low as possible round my bum in that typical moshery way... Cool kid.

But they were also insanely practical! I could carry my entire makeup bag, all my jotters and books, pencil cases (multiple), diary, phone and STILL have room for an ample packed lunch and maybe even my battered copy of The Bell Jar for reading round the back of the bin sheds when I was feeling particularly misunderstood. Which was often... Anyway, practicality WIN!

So now that I see they're enjoying somewhat of a fashion resurgence, part of me is like HELL YEAH, perfect excuse for me to dig out my brown cord H&M badboy with the hand-sewen coloured beads all and Nirvana patches all over it, and head out to the skate park to get my mosh on!

...But then I give myself a shake and think, dude, that is most uncool. You are 23, this will not do. Added to my Angela Chase centre-parted bob, acid-wash Levis denim jacket and creepers, I'm afraid I might be pushing the boundaries of my 90s obsession A TAD TOO FAR.

What do you guys think - the modern backpack - rad or lame?

Cool bag, but Uggs? Naw mate.

WARNING: Backpack porn:

Alexander Wang Marti leather backpack. Uuuhhhft. NEED!

If I bought a vintage black leather backpack (and promise not to write angsty lyrics and quotes all over it in glitter glue) would you guys still talk to me?

I know it's spring, but I'm chilly!

I wish I lived in 1990s Seattle and it was permenantly November...

MEADHAM KIRCHOFF FOR TOPSHOP

I usually hate posting about the same thing I've seen on other blogs as it feels like cheating a bit, plus I guess it must be be pretty boring for folk to read the same blogpost over and over and over...

But in this case I'm making an exception!

Get a load of the new SS11 Meadham Kirchoff collection for Topshop! I originally saw these photos yesterday over at Coco's Tea Party (seriously, that girl is always one step ahead for fashion news!) and then again at Kingdom of Style, and since then I've had the images stuck in my mind...

Over the last few weeks I've been coveting pictures on my desktop of anything 90s/tie-dye/denim/acid rave/grungy-inspired (catchy!) and this collection is pretty much the combined sartorial smorgasbord of all these cool vibes I've been feeling.

I can't begin to describe how much I love this collection, so I won't even try. Just look...

*sigh* I could look at them forever!

Loving the pieces individually, but they really come alive through the amazing styling.

Layering the sheer floaty pieces over breton-striped tops and leggings gives a gorgeous contrast in texture. It's a bold look, but even if you didn't want to copy this idea exactly, you could take inspiration could by simply mixing up florals and stripes. And there's that dip-dyed hair again...

I have to confess, it's making me wish I'd stuck with my long locks and got the ends bleached and then dyed a cool blue or purple... Uhhhft.

Anyway, yeah. Safe to say I adore this.

The collection has already landed at larger Topshop stores, but be warned - it is pricey! As for what's available online, THIS will be my first purchase:

Thoughts?

Oh, and finally, I'll be boycotting today's Grand National because I disagree with horse racing. Having grown up riding horses as a child, I can't bear to watch races where the horses are whipped, pushed to the edge of physicality and sadly often die (either literally on the course or shortly after). I'd encourage you guys to have a read at these two articles before placing a bet or watching it on Telly.

Peace :)

EDIT: Two horses died in yesterday's Grand National - Ornais, who broke his neck after falling at the fourth fence, and Dooney's Gate who broke his back after attempting to jump notorious Becher's Brook. The Aintree crowd and TV audience of millions watched the horror unfold and there has since been controversy in the press over the commentators' comments describing the bodies of the dead horses as "obstacles."

Even the winner, Ballabriggs, had to be rushed off the field immediately after the race to be treated for extreme dehydration and his jockey has been banned for using his whip with "excessive frequency."

Of the 40 horses who began the race, only 19 completed the course successfully. There has now been 20 deaths at the Grand National since 2000.

I don't think I even need to comment on how disgusting, shocking and abhorrent this is.

GRUNGED OUT MA NUT

This weekend I have been mostly reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, subtitling Songs of Praise and getting weirdly weepy at the mad Warbler-esq harmonising SKILLZ of those school choir kids, reliving my undergrad Glasgow Uni days with my best pal Marie at the Captain's Rest last night and meeting my maw's new puppies, kittens and lambs up at her smallholding. Spring has sprung innit.

I have, however, NOT been writing up court reports. Bad journo, bad bad bad.

In terms of my style at the moment, this new hairdo has kind of thrown me off kilter a bit. I wore it sleek and straight last night with fuchsia lippy and a black sheer blouse, which was cool I spose, but to be honest the grown-out-curtains vibe of this bob is pulling my more and more towards 90s grunge - an era/look that feels really natural for me. Beautifully fugly, you could say.

Dangnabit, my brain has kind of decided it can't be bothered making up words to describe what I mean, so here's some pics instead:

The more eagle-eyed of you may well have noticed several pics of Angela Chase aka Claire Danes in My So Called Life all up in this collection. This is no mistake people... Pretty much in love with her.

Anyhoo, feeling inspired I took to the ever-reliable Etsy, desperate for one item in particular - the perfect oversized vintage denim jacket. Oh, I was NOT disappointed!

Just check out this sweet acid-wash Levis number:

It was up for only like £19 - what a bargain! STUPIDLY though, I added it to my favourites in work with the intention of coming home to buy it, but I left it too late and by the time I logged on at home it was gone.

So gutted!

However, other items along the same lines currently favourited by me include:

Still SUPER gutted about that denim jacket though. Gonna annoy me for AGES now!

Anyhoo, I'm off to listen to some more Pearl Jam. I'll leave you with this little gem. Night folks :)

PS  Hello to my new followers! I'm getting really close to 100 and I just wanted to say hi and thanks so much for your comments and feedback - I appreciate it more than I can really say without looking like a sadsack loser...
.. Or MORE of a sadsack loser than usual anyway.

But yeah, thanks :) Contemplating a 100 follower giveaway as per the norm for blog milestones, but still mulling over what on earth I would actually give... away.

Blerg, bed calls. Clearly.
