When I was wee, and even when I wasn't so wee (see stationary-themed posts from 2010) going back to school was always SO exciting! Getting your new uniform, persuading your mum to let you have that super-short Topshop skirt over the M&S one, NEW HIGH SHOES, new Shelly's or Jane Norman bag (we've all been there, right? Remember when that was a THING?) but most importantly NEW STATIONARY!
In primary school, Disney, Forever Friends, Purple Ronnie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch or the Spice Girls formed the background to my pencil case/lunchbox purchases. In secondary school it was all about Emily the Strange (obsessed) or customising plain WHSmith notebooks with band stickers, beads and terrible emo/goth graffiti. Then, when uni rolled around, Paperchase seemed to be the obvious choice for cute and classy stationary.
Throughout all this I seemed to have MISSED the Lisa Frank boat altogether! Quirky American artist Lisa is well-known across the pond for her garish and girly school supplies and has been about since the late 80s and 90s, but strangely it seems like us in the UK never really picked up on her MENTAL designs. GUTTED not to have been born in America you guys - there's something SO WRONG IT'S RIGHT about these frankly mental notebooks and pencil cases n stuff, no? Or am I really pushing it this time?
I'm not even joking when I say I'd seriously use the dolphin notebook and kitten pencil case if I was heading back to uni this year. Is there something wrong with me?
